Timetable

High school is very different from primary school. You do not stay in the same classroom all day and will move around to your different lessons. Here is an idea of what your day could look like:

Did you know that we have a school minibus that can take students home after extra-curricular clubs for only 50p! Please note that the minibus only drops off in rural catchment areas and not Ipswich town postcodes that are served by regular public transport.

  Planners

On your first day of school you will be given a copy of your timetable and a school planner. The planner is to help you keep organised. You write your homework in it, parents/carers can write messages to your tutor and teachers can write messages to your parents/carers.

There is also a lot of useful information in the planner which will help you including a map of the school and key hints and tips for helping you to improve your learning.

You must take your planner to school every day and have it ready for each lesson. You must make sure that every day you show your parent/carer your planner when you get home so they can help you organise your homework if needed.

At the beginning of every week you need to ask your parent/carer to sign your planner so the school and home can work together to best support you.

Here is an example of a weekly planner page and how to complete it:

Equipment

You will need to bring into school each day the following equipment:

School Uniform

You will be required to wear a school uniform and details of what you will need and where it can be purchased from is listed on our uniform page.

Please check our uniform supplier websites for information which relates to uniform ordering during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Bus Information

If you are arriving or leaving school via a school bus, this is where you are dropped off and collected - it is behind the Main Hall.

If you travel home on a bus at the end of the school day you must go to your bus room when the final bell goes. A teacher will then tell you when the bus is ready for you to get on it.

Please note that parents/carers should visit the Suffolk County Council “Nearest school tracker” (http://nearestschool.suffolk.gov.uk/) to see if they are eligible for funded transport and consider how they might get to school if this is not available.

Families in the Otley area should be aware of some issues particularly relevant to their area of the county - click here for more information.

Young Carers

Some of our students have family members who need a bit of extra help.  It could be they are disabled physically, have a medical condition and/or they have mental health needs.  Our students often need to do that bit more at home – housework, shopping, looking after younger siblings, or just being there to listen when necessary.

Some of our students are registered with Suffolk Family Carers and we have a key worker who comes into school to speak and support our Young Carers.  You may well be a Young Carer already. Mrs Steele and Mrs Byam look after the Young Carers in school and hold monthly lunchtime drop-ins, where you can come along, with a friend if you wish and just get together.  Or if you think you may be a Young Carer, then you would be welcome to discuss it with us.  Please click to go to the Young Carers page.

Some welcome words from some of our Year 11 Student Leadership Team

Claydon High School is special because we have a unique system that allows us as students to make our way to a better future. We have a community of respect for everyone. The goal we have is to make a difference in the community and in ourselves, ‘to be the best we can be...for life’. Claydon High School gives us a lot of opportunities that will help us in the future, our school also invites everyone in our families to participate in school activities, so they know what has been going on in our classes and what new ideas/opportunities are being presented to us.

In addition, staff are always willing to help students and make sure they get to the point where they are in an excellent position to learn and grow. Students are also regularly motivated and appreciated during school assemblies.

Claydon High School: a school of many opportunities. Whether it is trips around Europe or the vast sporting facilities around the school, Claydon High school has many opportunities that cater for all personalities.

Claydon offers a wide range of trips. Previous trips have included visiting Belgium and France to learn about the soldiers in WW1, visiting Wentworth golf course during the BMW PGA (this is a great opportunity as it allows students to not only watch a professional standard of golf , it also provides the opportunity to meet the golfers and celebrities in between holes). Another trip is the one to Mersea Island in Year 7. This trip is an invaluable experience as it creates an opportunity to get to know your year group better, builds team skills and there is an extensive amount of facilities the complex has to offer . There are many other trips and opportunities available across the five years at Claydon which all help to aid learning and are unforgettable experiences .

Claydon High School strives to push students to the best of their ability so that they can be satisfied with the grades they achieve at the end of Year 11, whilst also maintaining a positive student wellbeing. This is why it is one of the best high schools to study at in Suffolk!

If you are interested in acting and want to develop your skills even so you are even better, then Drama lessons at Claydon High School will help you. I have improved so much with ,my acting over my four and a bit years at Claydon and that is all thanks to the amazing Drama teachers known as:  Mrs Maton and Miss Zagni. In Drama you get to study things like different practitioners and different styles of Drama.

If you like to draw and want to improve, then at Claydon we have amazing art teachers who are known as Mr Stearn, Mrs Byam and Mrs Longstaff-Scales. These three teachers have helped me improve my artwork so much! You get to learn about loads of different artists and how they draw and make different pieces of artwork, and then you get to try it yourself!

High school at first seems so daunting as there are so many people in a huge school, but it’s not what it seems as it is a step up from primary school but nothing to be scared of.  Claydon has so much to offer including a variety of sports clubs ranging from table tennis to football.  It’s a great school which I have thoroughly enjoyed throughout my time here. I would definitely recommend Claydon and couldn’t fault it!

Some words of encouragement from some of our Year 9 Prefects

I understand how nervous it is joining a new school, I was the same. Is there anything in particular you’re nervous about? The teachers and prefects are very supportive, whether it’s encouraging you to make friends, joining a club or even helping you find your next classroom, everyone is friendly.

I know how you feel but high school is a lot better than it seems. There are so many things to do! Sports clubs, debate clubs, book clubs! There are fresh opportunities, unknown things to learn, friends to make! And, it’s a lot smaller once you get used to it!

You will be welcomed into the Claydon community straight away by staff and students alike. There is absolutely no need to worry about getting lost as students and teachers will help guide you around. Your first week will be spent with your form, who you will spend all of your years at Claydon with.

I know it's difficult starting a new school, everything seems so big and strange especially when you come from a small primary school. Try not to worry as everyone feels the same. If you have a problem, just ask for help, don't keep it to yourself as someone will always help you.

When I moved to Claydon High School I was extremely nervous because I didn't know a single person in the school, but, on my first day I was greeted extremely well with teachers saying hello and helping me when I was lost. This that was the same with the entire school. After a while, I had found my way around the school and made some really good friends.
