Headteacher's weekly Update

We have had such a positive start to term from students of all ages and in particular the Year 7s have impressed us with their excellent start and Year 11 have started their final year with a great work ethic.

There is already a lot for students to get involved with and the extra-curricular club sheet and Year 11 Study Session programme will allow you to discuss with your child(ren) how they can get the most out of their time here, in and out of lessons.

You will soon receive our annual Parent Pack with lots of important information and in particular I need to draw your attention to a change in the way we check we hold accurate and up-to-date information about your child.  This will now be able to be updated online but we will need an email address for each parent with parental responsibility; the letter will cover this but hopefully this early change will save time later on.  In addition all students must have an annual consent form for trips and visits which will take place during the year; this will cover the majority of events with the exception of overseas or overnight visits which have to have a specific form returned.  If we do not receive these forms we cannot take your child out of school so please support us by ensuring it is completed – and your child hands it in!

Many members of the local community will remember Geoff Chapman, Headteacher of the school from 1961 until his retirement in 1982.  It is with great sadness we heard the news of his death on 14th September, aged 92.  Right up until August of this year Mr Chapman was keeping up-to-date with the daily life of the school and wrote regularly to congratulate staff and students on all that they were doing and their successes.  We have extended our sympathies to his family on behalf of the school community.
